Resource Directories: General

AMI-Québec

AMI-Québec is committed to educating parents, teachers, students, and the community at large about early detection of mental health issues, to avert the devastation that long-term mental illness can cause. They offer free public awareness and outreach programs.

Their database includes resource lists on the following categories:

  • Illnesses (including anxiety, depression)
  • Additional Challenges (addiction, substance abuse, learning/intellectual disability, sexuality and sexual orientation, etc)
  • Caregiving-related issues (including young carers)
  • Crisis and counselling (includes listening services, ie. Help lines)
  • General information
  • Returning to the community
  • Special populations (including children and youth, students)
  • Resources and publications Library (AMI Library): A wealth of information on mental illness and related issues, including over 700 books and DVDs.
  • Share & Care Newsletter: A quarterly newsletter including information non various services, coping strategies, etc.
  • Support groups and Workshops
  • Online learning: Available anywhere, anytime.

All of the resources are free or charge on a sliding scale. The few exceptions are marked with a dollar sign.

This page outlines the steps to take in order to get help or information regarding your mental health or the mental health of a family member or friend.

In case of an emergency, they suggest doing the following:

Call the 911 emergency service, if you fear for your safety or the safety of a family member or friend, or to obtain immediate assistance.

Call the suicide prevention and help line: 1‑866‑APPELLE (277‑3553), if you are thinking about suicide or if you are worried about a loved one (to send text messages

(SMS): 535353, to chat: suicide.ca).

Find a crisis  centre  (in French only) near you to obtain free specialized crisis intervention services for you or a loved one.

Mental Health Resource Centre, English Montreal School Board

A school-based resource comprised of a multi-disciplinary group of professionals from the Student Services Department at the EMSB. One of their objectives is to provide the necessary prevention and intervention services to address the mental health needs of students within a regular school setting. Their resources include the following:

Prevention Promotion, English Montreal School Board

A new website created in 2022 by professionals in the Student Services department at the English Montreal School Board (EMSB) provides information on resources related to mental health. Prevention Promotion, intended for educators but available to everyone, is a one-stop place for anyone passionate about improving mental health and building positive environments in schools. It was created to strengthen collaborative efforts between schools and the health and social services sector to support the school community in accessing resources.
